VINTAGE VIEW will be at Rikketik on November 15 — come say hi! 👋
Flip! Meet the Copal Caslon 701, a wonderfully quirky flip clock from the 1970s, finished in a lovely shade of green.
Long before digital displays took over our bedrooms and offices, flip clocks offered a rather satisfying way of telling time. Instead of hands moving around a dial, little numbered cards mechanically flip over as the minutes pass. It even features an alarm function and a little light to illuminate the numbers!
Japanese manufacturer Copal was one of the names behind this technology, producing mechanical and electromechanical timekeeping devices that found their way into homes and offices around the world. And just look at the design and typography! There's something unmistakably Japanese about this little clock.
It's much more than just a clock. It's a little piece of Japanese design history that looks fantastic on a bedside table, desk or vintage bookshelf.
