Even your coffee deserves a little history! Meet this charming wooden coaster set, inspired by the decorative craftsmanship of the Amsterdam School.
The Amsterdam School movement emerged in the Netherlands in the early 20th century and was known for its expressive designs, rich ornamentation and attention to detail. Its influence extended far beyond architecture, finding its way into furniture and everyday household objects.
This lovely set is made from burnt wood, a decorative technique known as pyrography, with beautifully textured surfaces and colourful red floral motifs. It includes eleven individual coasters and a matching cylindrical wooden storage box, complete with a larger flower decorating the lid.
The design is characteristic of the Amsterdam School period, although we cannot confirm whether this particular set actually dates back to the 1920s or 1930s. Regardless of its exact age, it's a wonderful little piece of Dutch decorative craftsmanship!
Condition: Good vintage condition with signs of age and use throughout. One of the eleven coasters has a crack.
Era: 1930s design, possibly produced later.
Material: Burnt and painted wood (pyrography)
Set: 11 coasters with matching wooden storage box
