Meet the Hillebrand 7404, a bold steel desk lamp from the 1970s, produced by German lighting manufacturer Hillebrand Leuchten.
During the 1970s, German lighting design was all about combining functionality with strong, distinctive shapes. Hillebrand was one of the manufacturers embracing this philosophy, producing everything from decorative household lighting to practical, modernist desk lamps.
And this one certainly makes a statement! Featuring a large, semi-circular black metal shade, a beautifully polished chrome stem and a heavy cast-iron base with a distinctive textured finish. The flexible ribbed neck allows you to adjust the shade, directing the light exactly where you need it.
But perhaps my favourite detail is that oversized chrome push button on the base. A satisfying feature that makes switching on your desk lamp feel like operating a piece of vintage machinery!
