If you know me, you know this is something special! Meet the Alpina 943 Flatback, one of the most fascinating chronographs produced by Alpina during the 1940s, straight from my personal collection.
Alpina chronographs from the 1930s and 1940s have fascinated me for years. Produced during a time when chronographs were still very much precision instruments, these watches combined technical sophistication with some of the most beautiful dial designs of the era.
And this particular example is a real eye-catcher!
Just look at that incredible lume-free multi-scale dial. Featuring a combination of blue and black printing, oversized Arabic numerals, a telemeter scale, multiple concentric scales and a mirrored outer track (just look at those pictures!), there's an almost overwhelming amount of detail to discover. The blued hands, deep registers and perfectly balanced layout make this one of those dials you simply can't stop looking at.
The stainless steel case features the distinctive flat caseback construction that gives this particular version its nickname, Flatback. Combined with the high, elegant beak lugs and classic pump pushers, it has all the charm of a top-tier vintage chronograph.
A wonderful example of why early Alpina chronographs have become such a personal obsession of mine. And now, a rare opportunity for you to own one. Not just any Alpina chronograph, but a truly exceptional example, and one of only two Flatbacks known to me.
