Chopard Horsebit "Lapis Lazuli dial" in 18k Yellow Gold

€0.00

Traditional elegance, with plenty of wrist presence and a Lapis dial taking centre stage.

Chopard is a traditional watchmaker, but during the early 1970s the brand wasn’t afraid to experiment. More modern, architectural designs appeared with natural and flowing shapes and a stronger focus on jewellery.

Today, there is enormous interest in vintage Piaget and the idea of the jeweller’s watch, but Piaget certainly wasn’t alone. Other watchmakers followed a similar direction, some more restrained, while Chopard could be a little bolder without ever losing its elegance.

One of the more recognisable examples is Chopard’s horsebit-shaped lugs, on watches measuring 24mm across and found in silver, gold and platinum with a variety of dial configurations.

This particular example combines an 18k yellow gold case and hinged lugs with a beautiful Lapis Lazuli dial.

At 24mm, the dial itself isn’t large, but the long hinged lugs give the watch considerably more wrist presence than the dimensions alone suggest. It makes for an elegant watch that can easily be worn by both women and men for a bold statement.

The Lapis dial is surprisingly subdued. Its blue is incredibly rich and saturated, while the stone itself has relatively few visible inclusions.

Inside is a manually wound Felsa movement signed for L.U. Chopard & Cie.

The 18k gold case shows signs of a life well lived, yet remains remarkably sharp, with its numbers and hallmarks still clearly visible.

The dial has an imperfection on the left side, where the stone has developed hairline fissures. Noticeable to the trained eye, but negligible in everyday wear. And, with what we might call a little “cracked dial discount,” it offers a much more approachable way into one of these beautiful Lapis Chopard watches, and might even be the better deal compared to a perfect example.
