Omega "Wearne" CK805 1930's

€920.00

The Omega CK805 with “Wearne” double signature.
As the original advertisement stated: “A sturdy watch, especially suited for sportsmen.” This 1930s sports watch by Omega with English provenance.

The CK805 is one of my personal favourites from Omega’s pre-war era. Compact at 30mm, yet visually substantial thanks to its thicker case profile and broad 18mm lugs, it wears far larger than the numbers suggest. Inside ticks the reliable calibre 26.5, celebrated for its rugged construction.

A perfect balance between sporty and elegant, the watch features beautiful applied Breguet numerals paired with a matching handset. But the dial has something extra: a rare retailer’s signature from Wearne, printed beneath the Omega logo. Wearne was a jeweller in Camborne, England. One that, still operates today.

W. Wearne & Son was founded in 1890 by William Wearne, who began repairing timepieces in his parents’ kitchen on Centenary Street. From there, the business expanded steadily—first to Trelowarren Street, then Market Square by 1894, and finally settling at 16 Commercial Street in 1910. A second store opened in Hayle at the turn of the century, and a third followed in Helston in 1914, where the family business still trades from Meneage Street.

Serving a hard-working community in the heart of Cornwall’s mining region, Wearne quickly became a trusted household name. Between the 1920s and 1950s they even produced their own line of Cornish-tin hollowware—tankards, candlesticks, teapots and more. During King George VI’s Coronation Tour in 1937, the king himself was presented with a Wearne commemorative tin tankard.

The watch itself remains in honest, well-preserved condition. The case retains its original definitions, and the dial shows gentle, even patina while keeping all of its character and details intact.
