センスある男のためのドレスウォッチ。
“A dress watch for the man with a sense of style.”
That's how Seiko described its Chariot collection in a Japanese catalogue from 1980. And looking at this particular example, it's hard to disagree.
During the late 1970s and early 1980s, Seiko was experimenting with more than just quartz technology. The Japanese manufacturer explored unusual materials, elegant case designs and natural stone dials, creating watches that were just as much about style as they were about telling time.
This Seiko Quartz Chariot is a perfect example. Featuring a beautiful blue sardonyx dial made from natural stone, with distinctive patterns that give each watch a character of its own. The understated case is made from Silver Hard Alloy Cobalt, a special cobalt-based alloy developed for its exceptional hardness and scratch resistance compared to conventional stainless steel. Combined with the minimalist dial layout, it creates a rather unusual dress watch that feels distinctly Japanese.
A wonderful little reminder that Seiko's quartz era was about much more than technological innovation. And this example comes in a wonderfull condition to be enjoyed for the next 40 years.
